tossing away in the rain (we in the sun!) Such a time as we had
shedding dripping garments and rubbing down & getting on fresh
ones. Ned sent hot brandy & water
in by Edith. Dr. Lindsay
(H.D.)
sent up quinine & Dr. Pond offered whiskey.
Everyone wore warm &
different (entirely) clothes
to dinner (we had dinner at night.) Mary got up after supper & we sat on the piazza
& discussed things & watched the beautiful sky. Ned &
I took Irene
for a walk down on the pier & the Chrysties
got the mail - 3 letters for me, from
Mama, Trudy &
Con. After I
had read them & we'd had a goodnight frolic with
Irene
and the girls had
gone to bed and
Ned, Hilda
had finished "Soldiers of Fortune"
which she'd read under all circumstances
all day she & Mr. D.
& I stole away to the bath
house & after many mysterious motions and arrangements he
developed some pictures he took of
Ned & I & the other day. It took
hours & was very weird - but the pictures proved to be much
under timed. We left the boat house door open and the glow of the
red lantern on Mr. D.'s
white hat
& face & hands was about all visible. Came up stairs before eleven
- tired.
