258SEPTEMBER 6 Tues 1910 Henry 4 today! A stiff land breeze and lovely
sky this a.m. The "Iroquois" left with only 4 men (the
other 4 went back by train) I took a walk & then "Mrs
Schultz" (a girl I've seen in Sibley's tea room) took me up the river - but the breeze was
so stiff. We got out on the other side and explored Oak
Orchard. After dinner took a nap! and then, at 3, walked to
Carlton "Ins Bridges"
and around thro' the old wooden one & back the
Oak Orchard road - loafed, rested, took pictures! When
"Charlie
" rowed me across it was 5 o'clock. Changed & walked - lovely
sunset - walk on pier, talked & wrote.
Wed 1911
Rather a gloomy day for our
5-year old. I was very busy & worked thro' till 3 (no lunch!) & then
went to his party Frances - the 2 [illegible] children & Gracie
[illegible] (& John
later) They all behaved beautifully. Flew Airships &c.
outdoors & in door had 2 birth- day cakes and presents & lots of fun.
I took some pictures. Mr. Balou (of
Boston) came up with
Claude. In the evening I went with Chat, Frank,
Lura & Mrs.
B. to see the Carleton Opera Co. in the "Mascot" -
no good, either!
told us funny European experiences.
Sat. 1913
A great day - up at 5 at
Kingston and so on down to
Prescott. (2 hrs) and back took by 5 p.m. - a day
of joy for Henry's 7th birthday. His
eyes shown bright all day. Chan
enjoyed it too but got more tired. He went to sleep against me out on
the forward deck while H. & I were
watching shooting stars. Hammon met us at the station
and CF was sitting up. Got an awful
stiff neck & felt pretty rocky at 1:30 when I went to bed.
Sun 1914 Our little Boy is 8 today! Rain. Read
"When Ghost meets Ghost" in the shack. Had a row up to
Mrs. Bowen's & to see the little Bride & Groom from
Ossining, who are camping on the rocks
Mr. Tallmage from the other
sides of the bald was here to dinner & I sat in the sitting room
& listened to his stories most of the afternoon. It was gloomy enough
outdoors & pouring rain. A fire & a loaf in
the Shack in the evening as usual. The Cookes are awfully
nice.
