MEMORANDA
Jan. 29 1910 CFB says Henry in his bath - says "I'm the Jolly Scot, (schromming)
going to Candida" meaning "I'm the J.D. Scott (a little steamer
at the lake) going to Canada"! Also, when
Chan is eating something he likes
& Henry isn't (as is often the case)
hesitates.
Chan says, "Get busy with your pusher,
wee, wee" (His name for Henry).
Jan 13 1911 Henry said at dinner today, when I asked if
he'd have a bit of (lamb) "meat" "No, 'sank you - meat is dead animal!"
(the young vegetarian!) I dropped the subject & in a minute
Chan passed his plate and said "I
want some animal, Aunt Maisie"! They
were awfully funny & dear today.
Chan can't hear Henry out of his sight. Henrymeasures him!
Mar 9 1912
It is astonishing - or would
be to most people) what
Alice tells me of JG's change of heart - something I
knew would come sometime - but I didn't know just
how. He is as foolish in his enthusiasm as he is in many things - giving
A. the most absurd & expensive
presents - the poor old dear! If she only knew what I read between the lines
of what she tells me! He'd be simply wild if he knew she told me anyway.
Even what he says about his wife "George"!
Jan 26 1913 Hemeny & Chan went to see Florence Fowler
twins in Syracuse. Gran'ma asked if they looked alike, "why no" said Henry
"One of their hairs is black, and one is light. And one of their faces
isn't the same". Chan said Henry didn't like them because they were "too
little" - being only 5 1/2 and he six!
