Of course it poured this
morning & everyone plans were spoiled. I made prints, viewed &
and was over to Meta's about 10:30 when
Bess called me up & invited me down
there. I went to lunch & after (only "Uncle" there)
and then we went over to Augustus St. to see "the
lot" (took pictures with my new camera) went to bed & read a while when I
got home ([illegible]) & then to the Lyceum & took co. with the Mac's & [illegible]
(N.Y.) Rain later!
Tues 1911
A beautiful Decoration
Day. Mother & I slept
late & felt sick did cross - but rested must of the day, reading
"The Broad Highway". About 4 went down to see poor sick
Bess & Mary. Frances
came too. Then went to the Hippodrome
(to kill time) & home to a late supper & reading.
Thurs 1912
A dubious Decoration
Day. Rained nearly all day. We had a good time. Breakfast (we 3)
about 8:30 - went to the big old barn & all thro' it, visiting the
animals &c. Built a rise grate fine &
Mary read to us. After dinner took pictures
of the lovely old Mahogany, pewter, china &c. sewed &c. Sat
around the fire at night and popped corn & ate candy &c. The
Barrons
are very nice & the things in the house - a real "collection" - are
fascinating.
Fri 1913.
Another lovely day.
Lydia
started for the north! I went with Bess,
Mary & "Rastus" to
Coburg - a gorgeous day but we needed our steamer
rug (went we had) Took two meals. Quite a crowd & lots of spooner.
We read "V.V's eyes" aloud. A fire day nap on sand.
Sat 1914.
An exquisite day. It seems
tho' I never would forget it - from 7 till 11. Hammond'sPackard, with Bess &
Mary. "capt".
RastusRuth D & Past the Lilacs -
Scottsville - Mumford[illegible]. Geneseo. Mt.
M. Lovely lunch by the road at 11.4 of us walk from the bridge
to
Glen Iris The new museum. 5 walk - to the lower falls - 2 lovely
houses, bridge &c Another meal. back zipping, thro
Portageville, & off to the exquisite
High Banks. Supper at the Big Tree & home by
moonlight! 160 miles in all!
