244AUGUST 23 Tues 1910 A very muggy disagreeable day. Jim & Tappan are planning houses for themselves & Butler on Amelie's Menlo pl. lots! I hustled home tonight to take a bath before supper. Slept in the den & got quite a cold. Wrote to Matie H. and Trudy. Nan's for my hair at noon. Wed 1911 Landed on time (7) & said goodbye to several. Willy Hosking, Miss Saunders & the nice man &c. A lovely carriage ride with a handsome French driver (Paquet) to Ramparts [illegible] house &c. &c. At Citadel had a regular Kipling soldier (with an Edward coronation stripe) to show us round (Stuttering) Saw guard mounting. Stopped at Hotel St. George - as English as Mrs. [illegible] shopped &c. all p.m. And after got some lemon phosphate (!) at a confectioners. After dinner went over to the Terrace & heard to [illegible]band and saw the crowd of cosmopolitan people. French English Canadians, American &c. &c. great! Then to our [illegible] room on the Square. Fri 1912 Mother and I stayed down to supper tonight & went to a very interesting "Bull Moose" (New Progressive Party) political meeting at Convention Hall.
Mrs Mont- gomery, Mr. Byrd & Mr. Prendergast spoke. It was quite exhilarating!
Sat 1913 Still dull this a.m. Took a walk in the wind after breakfast. Mr. S. wanted us to go to the p.o. box but we went to the Bar instead - great surf. "Dad" talked to us some. Packed. In p.m. Mr. S. spent it all with us by & in the swing. He is rather sorry to have us go, I imagine. Several people came. Had a exciting ride behind the colts going to the station. Home about 8:30. Dear Mother at the corner. Sun 1914 A horrid day ("forget it") hot muggy wind. Got very tired going to Seneca & G.V. Parks with Ruth all p.m. Storm came up &c &c. Motherwent to Claude's lecture on the War - (which is so horrible!)
