110APRIL 19 Tues 1910 A dark rainy gloomy day - poured at night but Havens defeated Bess Aldridge by large margin for Congress (in Mr. Perkin's place) Had a nice visit with my dearest brother - he is so good! & with Mary & Lura. J.G. home sick.Alice do in a.m. She's engaged now (since Apr. 12) to Clarence Galloway - on her birthday (Mar 14) it was another man boy. Lunched down this noon - visited the Pringles a little tonight and then Papa read & then I read till 10 (only) bed early. Wed 1911 Cloudy but warm enough. Chan & Henry were down this morning - lovely as ever. Edith Andrews was in & after lunch Bess& Mame. I lunched with Lura & Dr. Daily in crowded Sibley's. Puttered all day. Mother house cleaned. Have a new Arnold Bennett book to read tonight. Fri 1912 Dark rainy mornings. Carpathia & Titanic details today. Nobody did much but read newspapers. Howard Case was lost after all - after being reported saved till the last minute. Home this noon. Marguerite over about 10 (about tickets) I sold my Marconi at $230.00 (clear gain for me tho' I might have made more, doubtless, by waiting) no speculation for me! Sat. 1913. Mother, Coralyn
& I went to Power's Mirror Room and saw the enthusiastic raising of the YMCA
fund - nearly the last of over $750,000.00 raised in 9 days! It was great - the enthusiasm & all. J.G. presided. I shopped all the afternoon. Got a new black & white chali
dress.
Sun 1914 Warm. None of us slept very well. It was a showery day. I went to dinner with Mother (at Brigg's) & later we went to Cro'nest to welcome home Claude & Eugenie. Then we came down with C & the children (going to Charlotte dog-hunting) and I went to the Milly Davis's. Florence's - Zoe & Frank's & finally to Chattie's to supper - Mrs. D. in going to Atlantic City. She wants C&I to hear Kate in Buffalo!
