19JANUARY 19 Wed. 1910 Slippery morning but fine day. Home to lunch with Sunday pictures, which are fine - especially window-seat. Rented corner store to Singer people for 10 years (27,000 in all!) Went to Marguerite's for a long visit after supper & then read McClure's. Went to G.V. Club
at 5:30 to see the Fancy dress children's party in the ball- room - very cunning. Ned Buell Tyrolese Eliz. Shedd Indian Dorothy Frey Fairy - Donald - Scotsman &c. Came home with Amelie. She says John is running Bolton Shoe business - (!)
Thurs 1911. Force
specifications & toothache today. Hamilton was in, & Mr. Gilmore. home at noon. Aunt Melissa is "better" a telegram says. I got a new suit (brown) this a.m. at Edwards.
Had a nice visit with Meta tonight & also stopped a minute at Mrs. Rowe's - bed early - then. Had a nice visit with JW. yesterday. He was down - on crutches - for the 1st time since before Thanksgiving.
Fri. 1912 Cooler again. Wrote Osburn
specifications all day. Mother came down & went to the cafeteria to lunch with me. Afterwards we went to Sibley's & bought her a new fountain pen (safety - like Alice's) Went to the Hippo tonight & after supper wrote to my Bermuda friends and read. This is Father's old fountain pen, Mother found today.
Sun 1913 Cleared off nicely. Mother & I went to Cro'nest to lunch. Frances
gave out in the midst of dinner. Tho't she had appendicitis - but revived. I called on the Flacks in the p.m. (Party call) Then walked home - Seemed to be busy all day. Claude lectures before Labor Lyceum.
Mon 1914 Went down to the office & "Swedish movement" rooms with Mrs. Steele, Mrs. Jenny
& Miss Lamb after breakfast. Then to Dem's - who had had a bad fall & cut her head &c. To Andrews' & played checkers with Mr. D. Mrs. Edwards came in & Dr. & Mrs. A. & we took pictures & had a jolly time. Dr. brought me up in the buggy. After lunch went over to A.O's to tell them about Dem. Rested, had a "Moliere
". May called & we called on Mrs. Magee
- & after dinner sat in the Inglenook & chatted & read upstairs
