MEMORANDA
Sun Apr 10 1910 Henry seemed much experienced with the bridges
he saw on his trip to N.Y. Also the tall buildings. The
men at the hotel! (I think the crowds) and of course the
"en-gines" & cars. "We took the early train". & the "colored
man" &c. They got toys-cars & "engines" at Swartz's &
Letitia
& Kath bought H. 5 pretty suits - white, blue & white, brown
& white & two crash
suits. Chan has a new blue coat and hat. He talked a
good deal & recognized "Gran ma"
and "Gran'pa" in all the pictures. He weighs
34 and Henry 39 lbs.
Apr. 9 1911
I was showing the boy the
Oliver Herford animals today & Henry was very much pleased with the elephant
giving away his tusk - the whale holding an umbrella, the Yak being barbered
&c. He saw in the jokes. Chan asked
me what that was. I told him a "Crocodile". He looked at it long and
earnestly another remarked "we have a sun-dial!" When Mrs.
Tappan skipped him passing Nabisco's the other day
(in Obedience to Letitia's work!) he
remarked "I guess you've made a mistake!"
July 12 1912
