281SEPTEMBER 29 Thurs 1910
Fine still. The city gay
with flags &c. and "red necked Democrats". Stopped at [illegible] and at Bess's
this noon & walked up with Ruth Cun- ningham. Tonight
went down into Cutler's & had a chat with
the girls & Bridgman. Missed
Lura. Tonight sat by the fire & sewed
&
Mother read "the Friendly Stars"
- about Capella - which we identified &c. Alice Jones
phoned me to dine with Helen Sayles tomorrow.
Fri. 1911
Cold misty & rainy. A
horrid dark day. The man cleaned out furnace & started furnace fire
(Frieda's was started too, I think)
Lunched with Mary, Nellie & Lura at Sibley's & went
to the
Hippo. Worked on books, lists &c. Tonight read
aloud to Mother & to myself some too.
Peter
very affectionate. Came & got in my lap, poor dear. Sat up too late - writing &c.
Sun 1912
Dreary cold rain this a.m. but
I felt more rested & breakfast about 9:30 Persuaded Mother not to go to church At Cro'nest had a lovely time with boys &
Cats &c. & they walked down with me. Edith
came. They went back alone. Miss Fox came & sat
by the grate & Gurdon &
Ruth
came looking happy - a good day! Boys early!!
Mon 1913
Nice day. We are so enjoying
our little cat. At first we could hardly tell him from Frieda's but he's smaller (& prettier) He
weights 4½ lbs. Rufus weight 5 and
Rastus 5¾ (he's lovely too) Mary Braun
got back tonight. I read the new "American"
Tues 1914
Warmer, but still cold.
Mother
came down and we bought her a blue serge dress & had her hat
fixed (a silver rose) and I got a new green velvet hat &c. This pm went to
the German poster exhibit with Claude.
This evening (late) Ruth
had a Young man call.
