257SEPTEMBER 5 Mon 1910 Just the worst day ever. Bess had a little breakfast in bed and Mary & I sat on the piazza a good deal of the day and watched it rain - pour. Lots of other people did the same. The "[illegible] Griffith &c) came back for Niagara on the lake & tried to leave for Rochester but it was too rough. A big wind came up. The girls left in a streak of sunshine - at 3:30. After supper I walked to the end of the pier. It was wierd - fog - lightning - thunder & just as I got in a down pour of rain. Slept in a better room. No. 14 - and read "Wild Olive" till 8:30. Then to bed! Tues 1911 Nice morning. Cloudy p.m. & pouring rain tonight came home to lunch had long phone conversations with Mabel & with Alice B. J.G has given her a platinum pen with pearls. Louis Tiffany notepapers & die. A book plate (CFB's making) some books - a pocket - book with gold monogram & 700 & a glass fastener in 1!) more money. Silver &c. &c. He has it bad. Poor man! What a revelation!! (JW don't approve)!!! Thurs 1912 Mother and I went down to see Bess & Mary's house (just finished) It is lovely. Mary Gridley there too Selected (?) wall paper. Fri. 1913. Nice day. Lunched with Florence
at Sibley's. "This night" Claude & Mother went to Charlotte with Chan, Henry & I for Henry's birthday present from his Father! They were up till we got 'way out in the Lake long after 11. but slept well in nice Cabin No. 144 in the "Toronto". I was too hot & crowded (with Chan) and slept far from well!
Sat. 1914 Fine clear & beautiful. We 3 went up the long & trail to the top of Black Bear Mt - entrancing views. Spent 4 or 5 hours there, slept, sunned, ate, picked blue berries &c. &c. Reluctantly left about 4 & spent nearly 2 hours coming down!! Bath & dress before supper. Had marshmallows before the five (Pine Camp boys.) no row. It was late to bed. Were pretty tired after 3 day of it! Lovely night but no row for poor little Maisie.
