MEMORANDA
July 23 1910. Sat. Henry & Chan down to see Gran'ma its so affectionate. He didn't go in bathing at Russell Is because the water wasn't "straight" (smooth) gave her a full descrip- tion of the big waves rolling in &c. Likes to "swim in a boat". Channie doesn't. Mrs. Caring say little Margaret Steinhausen swims "like a fish" - Amelie knows how too & Dorothy is learning, but Donald is afraid. Sept. 2 1911 Henry & Chandler down to spend the day and went home alone in the car! Gran'ma putting them on and Nana taking them off! Henry was entertaining Adeline
at supper last night & remarked "we live in a beautiful spot". Chan asked if "Uncle Jim's toes came off" &c. He said he was "firsty (thirsty) for a cracker" at dinner &c. &c. &c.
Nov. 26-27 1912 CFB says Chan thought Christmas "Revels" were "Rebels" and wasn't at all sure he wanted to go. Henry said "I'm going to keep close to you Father. New York is such a busy place & there are so many automobiles". He comes down to Gran'ma's alone now - or gets off & comes to the house alone. Sept. 30 1913. Tues. stove. They have a lovely fashioned "bungalow" house but slept out in a tent. The wife (Winifred Ball - I used to go to RFA with her) is a good sport. "Bud" Nolan (Ed's son & the H. girl) lives with them. He is 21 and fine - but he had gone off to school. Jno. Williamson (another nephew - 17) also spends a good deal of time then we got home about 9:30 - Such a nice time! Dec. 12 1914 Florencewas alone & very nice. Had been baking fruit cakes &c & we ate mince pie in the kitchen (!) She talked about Irene & Edith, of course. She can't get over Edith for she still adores her. I know well. She told me the good advice "chap" gave her & the nice things he said about me (!) & that Lou said too.
