were family crayon-portraits - lots of deer- heads, an organ - a "memorial" &c. &c. &c. We read "Shorty" on the piazza & finally had dinner (venison too!) in the still older "blue dining-room" part of the house - with six queer people (3 couples) the queerest of which was a woman in a heavy bath robe and marcell waves - both of which we had seen down on Lewey Bridge (They came up by boat!) After a proper interval after dinner - part of it spent in photographing the lovely blue mount- ains beyond Lewey Lake, from the upper piazza, we "turned our steps" back - and found the road still lovlier - if possible than in the morning. We rested above the bridge before embarking - & Mary leapt to her feet at sight of a very-near deer (which proved to be a cow) We shooed her off and Bob declared her deer was much smaller, much lighter colored & much livlier. Had a nice row down. Mary doing about 2/3's of it. It had calmed down so the wind didn't bother much. Rested before dinner & didn't row tonight. The moon was very late - but beautiful thro' the trees, reflected on the water from my tent door! Aug 16. Sun. A lovely day, but Bob was headachey (no wonder) & we didn't wander far. I went down & called on the Abbots & got them to pose "with & without" hats. The lovely distant
