our boat on the point below the bridge, was fresh deer tracks & we saw many more that day. We scrambled our way to the road and started due south east - picking and eating berries all the way. The road was beautiful. The mountains very blue and the clouds very white. The sun apparently bright (tho' the pictures didn't prove it) and everything fine. We ate & picked & looked & exclaimed & snapped and "gushed" most of the way over - but the climax came in the middle - afterward after we'd turned southward and Bob had gone ahead so I could take her picture in the view (It wasn't good!) Just after she'd started on, I heard a rustling in the wood & saw the bushes shake & Bob stood still. 2 rods ahead of me, gazing into the woods & exclaiming "I see a deer!" - and she did! the last of it disappearing with a jump still farther into the woods! Mary was speechless with rage because she didn't & Bob so happy! At last (after about 2 miles of road - hills dales, woods &c.) We saw & fence & finally a very picturesque house - or group of houses built together - at the foot of the hill, in the midst of a clearing facing the lake. Bob took its pictures twice & I didn't (except the back view, later) & as all her pictures were bad, we haven't any of the front. It had upper & lower piazzas & logs running both ways (on different houses) and inside
