After our exciting dinner Mr. Mahaffey led the bulk of the company (mostly the "new" girls) up Whittaker trail - some not going all the way. The Barnums, McKowns & Russell went the Mason trail (after wading the river) most of the able bodied men staid & fished, or smoked & loafed and Joe

, "Charlie
" or Chamber & we three went up Dug Mt. trail. Of course the boys got 7 mile ahead of us (by request as soon as we had really started - but that's what we wanted - It's a pretty trail - but all thro' woods - nearly as long as Whittaker, but not so much variety. The lonesome little pond at the end is almost inaccessible - picture-wise but I took it thro' the branches. We didn't find the boys there, but while Mame & I were exploring (& had found a big snake that had just swallowed something) they came back - having found the [illegible] two ponds beyond. It was too late for us to go to them (we were to start back about 4:30) The boys shot at a log awhile - but soon disappeared - when we got back to where we'd left a sweater a hat or two we found them apparently in a tree top (but the tree bent) There was a nice little brook to cross
