and Russell) Carried things up to
Bob
there and at night. Mame went
down to the lodge after lunch to see Dr. Paine
& didn't get back till the mail came.
Bob
felt better the middle of the afternoon and came up to my tent and bed.
It was the only night I didn't attend camp fire, but after
Mary came home & went to bed with
Bob,
I did go down to watch the beautiful full
moon a bit - but everyone had gone. I saw the fog come steadily down the lake,
covering the mountains and islands one by one - almost solid - and finally
obscuring the moon herself and oozling through the forest trees. It was very
beautiful & very wonderful & gave one a strange feeling.
Aug 12 Wed
A muggy day. Didn't feel quite as ok as usual. This a.m. made prints, aired
bed clothes (hot work!) and read Mr. Stratton's hand
writing (much to the edification of the ladies) visited with neighbors
&c.&c.&c. Right after lunch we actually started for
Beaver Meadow! (It was to become first trip -
August 4th!) Had to land up-shore but "anteloped"
over logs and found the trail at last - past a deserted camp & up a
wonderful piled - up stony brook to a clung of trees above it. Here we gathered
fire wood & left Bob
and "the duffer" and Mame & I nosed the brook & I shed my skirt (had gym.
bloomers)
