of the "Half a leg! Half a leg!! Half a leg down ward!!! "story the girls told me later I kept on my flannel waist I was glad. A nice ride down the lake. Part of it with a pleasant young man named Mace (same as my Milwaukee friend - up the lakes) Had only time for a hasty lunch at Raquette - found my seat OK on the Pullman & then changed to a thin waist &c. to match. Feel fine. Read "Mr. Crewe"

a good deal - It was "Sherman Day" at Utica & very gay. Had a good club sandwich & fixings for dinner (& a "hygenic antiseptic toothpick which I sent to the girls) & found dear Mother to meet me exactly on time at 8:12! And Father & Zozie at home. Was worried to hear little Chandler had been quite sick with his 4 new teeth (not through yet!) & shocked & - yes horrified - to learn that Lillian Davis had an operation last Saturday for cancer of breast! & is still in a critical condition. Aug 19. Wed. Office OK. Not busy & in a way glad to get back. Miss Lura, who is at St. Helena. Edithcame up & pumped me tonight Aug. 20. Thurs. Cool & bright. Went to Hutchinson's to tea to meet Ruth Huntington, just from Honolulu (Miss Rogers, Miss Whittlesey & Mr. Newton
also there) they made me stay to dinner which I enjoyed. Louise
& the children are there & so nice.
