Addy - di ay & we were all happy. The real wind blew at the
lake & big rollers came in & we had a nice walk up to
the YWCA house on the shady bluff - Rested in hammock-chairs while
Mary read to us "The Loves of Pelleas &
Ettarre"
- a lovely book. After awhile a fat lady with a masculine
relative & Pearl
went in bathing & Mary & I sat on a rock & watched them. The
breakers were so big they had to jump them & couldn't swim at all.
Pearl's
moss-green bathing cap bobbed up & down for half
an hour & they came in exhausted to (when they got out (cold)
Sarah Selden treated us to Whittle's
candy &
talked to us & we had a good supper in a room paneled with fronts of old P.O.
Boxes from
Reynolds Arcade P.O.! Then we sat in the steamer chairs & read some
more - till dark- altho' we saw the rain coming & it did come. We did our hats up in newspaper & didn't get so very wet
going to the car - but as soon as I got home (about 9:15) it came down in
buckets full & kept up all night too.
Sun. July 25.
A perfect day, after the rain. Went to
Cro'nest right after dinner. Found CFB
& the babies out on the north side. Mother &
I took Channy & Hemeny to
the Park. It was
delightful. Henry was delighted with the
Goldfish which "swum"
. There was a large picnic at Ramsdell's
which stopped over on to our back lawn. They borrowed the archery & the
children's table &c. I had a fine time.
