partly on a hassock. I said "oh, Mother, what shall I do?" and she said "Telephone for Dr. Grant" and I ran, leaving Father and Mother to take her up after I had taken off her hat. I called Dr. Grant but he wasn't in - would be in in half an hour and come immediately. Mrs. Caring had gone over and when I ran back to tell them Char lay on the sofa with her collar loose and a comfortable over her - only partly conscious - I ran back and called up Claude, (who was reading Schopenhauer's essay on "Death"!) and told him Char had had a sort of a fainting spell, that I had called Dr. Grant and asked if I should call Dr. Ely. He said I couldn't get him & Dr. Grant was all right - In a few minutes Claude came but before that I had taken off Char's collar and talked to her. She was partly rational but not all. Told me to "take the cover off the basket" (which was all ready for the Baby) asked "where the children were" (possibly she meant the Steinhausen twins, whose windows were opposite - but I don't know) and asked what things were. She seemed worried at Mrs. Caring and asked who she was. I said Mrs. Caring - and she said "Mrs. Caring I don't know Mrs. Caring -Then I said "no our neighbor, Mrs. Caring" and she smiled sweetly and said politely "How do you do
