& she told me some of her experience, at the fire. Mother & I went to Davis's tonight but Kate wasn't home. Saw her photographs - letters &c. She certainly was a "star performer" in Sicily. Apr. 16 Fri. Lunched with Bess & Mary at Sibley's today & watched Mary try on her pretty new green suit. Took "Becky"
to the doll hospital to have her arm glued on. Miss McAffrey's

. Apr. 17. Sat. Fine day. Fred sick & Miss L.

tonight. Apr. 18 Sat. Fred broken out so we didn't know but it was scarlet fever or something, so I didn't dare go to Cro'nest. Fred is better tho! Miss Lewis here all the p.m. & evening. Went to Davis's with Father in the p.m. & had a nice visit with Kate who told us all sorts of funny experiences - about feeding the Road makers, seeing the Pope &c. &c. Apr. 19. Mon. Busy all day - very. Father finished reading "Through one administration"
aloud. Apr. 20 Tues. Cloudy - Autumn - chapter day. Lunched at Cafeteria & went to picture show. Read the new Century tonight. Rather dull. Apr. 22 Thur. Yesterday was such a perfectly horrid day that I'll skip it. Harper
was married to-day. George Bridgeman is to be (the goose - on nothing) & Gilmore gave me his views on the subject, which are "not fit for publication". Work early & late now a days - "plod" a good deal. Apr. 23. Fri. Fine. Busy. Dr. Andrews called. Lunched at Seel's & looked for hat, but didn't succeed very well. Henry spent the morning with "Gran'ma".
