Warm. Went to Nan's & had my hair done.
Snatched a lunch & met Chattie at the
2:30 car for Canandaigua. We went to see the beautiful
Thompson(?) Gardens
. Japanese (tile - stepstone walks - dragons - tea
house artificial water fall - bamboo pergola - stone lanterns - Jap gardeners
&c. &c.) Italian (sunken formal - statues - pergola's - view &c.) Yankee
(grape arbor & flower beds) English (lawn tree clumps - artificial ponds)
&c. also a flying cage with 600 birds (very interesting & a nice man
to show us larks &c.) a garage & stable &c. &c. It was really a
charming spot - & besides there were hot houses, rose & vegetable
gardens &c we didn't see) I was rather warm some of the time. We had a
nice walk thro' the town & went down to a restaurant to supper - bought
postals &c. & took the seven o'clock limited home. Everything smoky
from forest fires. Got weighed - 158lbs. (don't believe it!) Took a bath and read
Gellet Burgess's "Heart line" in bed.

Cold rain in morning (at last!) but fine later. Shopped some & read
tonight.
Sun. Sept. 20
A glorious day. Went up to Cro'nest in the
morning & played with the babies in the warm sunshine. They were
lovely.
