1908.
Flack left this p.m. for Kettle Falls. Wash. Tues. Jan 28. Chattie Davis come up to supper tonight picked out some of my foreign pictures ($4.00 worth at cost) for a book. We had a real nice time together. She stayed till 10+. Jan. 29-30 Wed.-Thurs. Very cold. Real winter weather. I find things harder to bear. Dear Boy how does he ever stand it? He's so lovely! Thurs. night Lura, Chattie & I dined with Milly again (Hamilton away) We stayed late and enjoyed ourselves, but I got very cold, both there & later waiting for cars, so that I took a hot foot bath & some swigs of brandy & set before the fire before going to bed, tho' it took till midnight. Jan. 31 Fri. Felt better. Must have broken up my cold. Lunched with Papa at Sibley's. He has been much interested in the Ellwanger will
case - which he's been attending. Am reading "Alice-for-Short"
to Mother. Feb. 1. Cold and stormy. Another blizzard to- night. I shopped a little & went to the Bijou and tonight, wrote, figured & music - boxed Feb. 2 Sun. A snowy day. I didn't hear from Claude & went up in p.m. And found him sick and miserable, poor dear - his tummy & the reaction and all - I couldn't cheer him up - but read him Henry James and we talked to Henry and I sat by him &c. Miss Jones
took his temperature - which was high - I staid to supper (He wasn't eating) and left soon after as he was going to bed. I went to bed myself at 8:30 - tired out (& worried)
