Mar. 11 Wed
Fine day - busy too. Got down at 7:30 this a.m.! Bought my ticket this noon.
Tonight we were going to bowl but couldn't get an alley so I went with the
Flacks down to Fitzhugh Hall and watched them.
Later to the library and then home.
Mar. 12 ThursMary's birthday and a lovely day. Mother
went to the station (Lehigh) with me and there was quite a crowd, but
Edith and I got a nice double seat, and
had really a comfortable day - but a long time - Miss
Fisher (formerly of Greig St.) was on - and others
familiar. We ate a lot of our sumptuous lunches as we passed Seneca
Lake (at noon) I took lunch for Edith, but Mrs. Maise put up some for her too and
we had Florida oranges from Elsie. I read
Janette Lee's story in the Smart Set "Simeon
Tetlow's Shadow" very good. The scenery was fine - We ate again in late
afternoon and went to the driving car for "extra's" but it was late and not
particularly agreeable. Some men had our extra seat while we were gone - and a
little longer. We were glad to get to Jersey City and the
long ferry ride to 23rd St. was most delightful.
New York a thing of beauty and the big new Singer
Tower
very impressive.
Mary met us (only 15 min late) in her fur
turban and black caracole coat - very stunning. She was glad to see us, too.
Took us right to 14 Irving Place where we had nice rooms (22
and 23, 3rd fl.)
