maiden hair ferns and orange - colored fungi & lichens - moss-covered rocks & tree-trunks &c.&c. The view is simply lovely - way up "Johnny Mack" to "Dug" up Indian - & one can trace the Jessup. It's near enough to see boats & details & things too. After I took its picture we sat a long time. Watching the Changing clouds & mist & saw a storm - a shower - gathered - over behind Snowy - come down over Lewey Lake & pass across the upper Jessup's & bury Dug & the mountains to the East Finally we came down & told Bob about it. After dinner we went to row - but it was still rather rough & we didn't stay out so very long. Had a nice camp fire - all our pet jokes & stories - and when the Abbotts were alone with us we roasted my marsh mallows. Afterward Becky Barnum & Peggy Pitkin came too. Aug. 14 Friday Warm & fine today. And we had a camp picnic (in the launch) up Jessup - Alfred Abbot, Julia

& Helen
, and Mr. Pitkin, Margaret
& Elizabeth
, went up Snowy instead (The Abbots in bathing skirts &c!) Fan staid home & so did Mrs. Pitkin. Most everyone else went. Sat next to Miss Laurie going up. She's real nice & funny too. The Jessup was lovely but not so lovely as before. We landed just above the second stumps island (it was so shallow)
