worried because he did not come. I went and telephoned again and just as
I came out of the house he came along - walking. I told him going in what was
the matter and he hurried upstairs (meantime Claude told me afterwards - she had another convulsion - a short one -
which must have been the third, as
Mrs. Caring said she had one when I was
telephoning for Claude. It must have been a
very small one) when I was up there once, before the doctor came - Claude
had just showed her my picture of Ned
in the little gilt frame Nellie Mac gave
me. I suppose she asked to see it - as all the little things about interested
her.
Dr. Grant talked to her very sweetly asking
questions about what she had been eating if she had a pain (no) &c. &c.
She called him "doctor" and soon "Dr.
Grant" and he said to me -"You see she knows me". He wanted a glass of
warm water for an emetic and we got it and I helped lift her to take it. She
was frightened before she knew it was "Maisie"
but then smiled sweetly. She took half willingly but
didn't want the rest.
Claude looked into her eyes and said "I want
you to take it Char" and she said "yes, I
will, Claude" (did anyone ever say "Claude" sweeter) and "I will be good, I will be
good." The darling-
