After breakfast there was a "weighing match" at the barn (but the scales are
wrong) & I took a picture in the barn door, & the view down the lane
(toward the woods) back of the barn.
Trudy & I walked to the mail alone, & found
Mr. Huerter & Mrs. C. had rushed ahead to
catch up with us (thinking we had gone before) The
Batsfords were there too - in a boat. Mr.
Michell came along with his double carriage & the mail - & "us
women" all rode back - up to the house in fine style! It was so early we
decided to go for a row & I went way up the west bay, under the bridge,
& up "lost channel" until I had to paddle a long ways. It reminded me of
Deer Creek, but was prettier - lots of flowers. When I got tired we
turned back - the picture is just after we turned (or rather paddled the other
way, we couldn't "turn" there) we saw a net full of pike sunk in about 15 ft.
of water! the game constable had got it, but the sun shone in so we saw it.
Got awfully sunburned, especially my arms & wrists. After dinner learned
(from Mrs. Ely) how to make huckaback belts at the
"Sewing society". Then Trudy & I walked down
to the beach & spent most of the p.m. there. Some country women &
children & two horses went in bathing - to our amusement. If I'd only had
my camera to get some of the X-ray effects! Later we took a row up
