(back new) in the background. After dinner sat in the swing awhile & read
Thyrza"
(after talking to people) & at four went in bathing
again. It was very rough & batted us around a good deal but felt good. We
had spectators this time. Mr. Huerter & Mr.
Batsford went in too. I found my pretty blue gingham was shrunk
so at the laundry that I couldn't wear it & gave
it to Gertrude - swapping it for her blue & white
lawn! How Klem
laughed! We wore them to supper. Went to the sunset & passed a perfect
evening on the bluff in the beautiful moonlight. It was dry & we walked up & down while the black & gray
kittens followed us for an hour. It was really a heavenly night. The people
down at the house had a seance!
Aug 26. Thurs.
A muggy morning - with a little rain. I rowed over for the mail with Klem while
Gertrude(washed dishes!) wrote letters. The breeze on the bay
was "quite some" but I got there, & Klem
rowed back. Mrs. Shone
& the Huerters & some friends of theirs
(Rosseaus) from over Sodus - way went
for a shore dinner some were quite private (the
Slossons, Huerters,
Batsfords & Mrs. C sat at our table)
Had quite a pleasant chat with
Mrs. Slosson - who was a business woman before she married
& smart too, I imagine. I like them very well & the children are
lovely. A breeze blew up after dinner &
Klem, Trudy & I walked over to the woods - I didn't
