he had tamed &c & and finally I invited the girls to row & we had
a gorgeous one- way down the west side, past two or three points and some
woods & up in the marshy places toward Wolcott, then
back the other side to Desborough's. I should think 4 or 5 miles
any way. There we got out & went up on the lovely bluff & finished
"Polly of the Circus"
which we had been reading aloud. Some
people (an automobile party, I think) were in bathing. Klem rowed us home just in time to dress for supper. We were
invited to a corn roast on the beach tonight (Mrs. Cheeseman's
& Mrs. Shone's I think) & had a right jolly time!
Everyone but Miss Gebhard & her mother & the
Slossons came (& they couldn't) they roasted two potatoes
for me - but I lost one. Everyone got covered with butter & said the corn
was fine. There was a moon - but no sunset.
Aug. 24. Tues.
Warmer & cloudy this a.m. Some thought it would rain. Spent most of the
a.m. going to the P.O. with the McGuires (two "nurses")
After dinner darned &c on the piazza till about three, when Trudy, Klem& I
went in bathing! It did feel splendiferous. Afterward we had a potatoe hunt
for my lost one - & found it - A gorgeous sunset
tonight (Klem took it) and lovely moonlight
on the bluff till 8:15 or so when we all went to a Pedro Party given by the McGuires.
