lovlier for last night's rain, which settled the dust, too, from to Warrensburgh the curves were lovely & we passed the Schroon river just before we got there - and bought some Gasoline. Yes, there was a toll gate somewhere along there too. And a queer bowlder-sticking out into the view. From Warrensburgh we went North to Chester - rather (?) civilized at first and then thro' miles of the most beautiful forest I ever saw - open like Fountain bleu (but not a bit like it) & full of most delicious odors & colors past little lakes & soon and finally to Chester - a mere hamlet - where we saw an ox-team. There we turned east again & tackled & unknown road. much rougher. This is the first of it. It was great exploring. When we got to the Solomon River we turned south again skirted its banks - and that was lovely - but it was getting dark for pictures. I tried one of a road vista - which was no good & finally we bumped down to a bridge and when we crossed the river I took one looking back - with one Yellow elm - like or
