all dark but the old lantern in the prow - and a must magnificent display of fire- works - lasting over an hour - a good deal - We didn't leave there till after twelve & got up on the hill about one. Then had supper, sewed on buttons &c. and got into bed well after two! Oct. 10. Sun. Heavy fog this morning - so heavy that I couldn't take
the new Bayer house & garden to say nothing of the family. Had about 3 1/2 hours sleep last night, ate breakfast with Eo & Frank & afterward Ruth, & then went to the station & got the 8:55 train for Glens Falls. Arriving about an hour earlier than on the trolley - as planned. The ride was beautiful, as the sun came out finally & the foliage was gorgeous. Mrs Braley & Gertrude were not quite dressed & the others were at church. I told them that I had not "officially" arrived & went to bed & had a nice nap before dinner - which was delicious. Frances has grown into a very pretty girl and Donald a nice 11 - year old boy. It was really a hot afternoon - we started right after dinner. Mr & Mrs. B. Trudy & I with "[illegible]" & drove down the fine new boulevard (just oiled) to the lake - 9 or 10 miles - a most lovely drive too - especially up beyond French Mountain, past "Bloody Pond" (of an Indian Massacre) &c. Then we saw the lovely lake and went across the right or eastern side & up to "Crosbyside" where Mary Mac enjoyed two vacations at Holiday
