Adeline & John Ruliffson came first & then Frances & her father & mother & then Lura & Jim A. Henry grew sweeter & sweeter & was very dear & adoring to Frances. Showed her the "fisses" and flowers in the finger bowls &c. &c. Letitia had a lovely supper. little jam sandwiches, chocolate, ice cream like animals & [illegible] & a lovely birth- day cake which everyone in turn had to blow out in the "little house" - Channie most of all. He was cunning. The group picture was not a great success - but everything was lovely & Henry a very nice little host - toward the end especially. He ran races with Frances & tried to catch her & was so anxious to kiss her goodbye & did kiss her hand. We were proud of both babies & Frank & Lillian admired the house. Sept. 7 Tues Cold. Now Peary has discovered the north pole! (Apr. 6' 09). A few days ago & we learned that Dr. Cook had (Apr. 21' 08)! & everybody is much excited about it. Lunched with Mary D. & we had a "picture fest". Mother took Frances to Jno. Ruliffson's party. Busy. Sept 8. Wed Cool, but nice. Our Perfects' Party tonight at Matie's, her mother's first for dinner & then her flat for cards, visit & Mabel's monologues. Mabel had two clever poems & Bob was there & altogether we had a very nice time.
