to the singing on the bay. Mrs. G. invited us to D's to church, but we didn't go. Saw Klem home & met Mrs. Russell & visited with her a little & her daughter Mrs. Kanon Mr. Russell (a character!) Aug. 23. Monday. Warmer - but lovely - Croquet before breakfast (Klem got up an hour early by mistake) Quite a crowd went to the P.O. Box - Mr. & Mrs. Batsford (rowed) Mrs. Shone & Ruth. Mrs. Cheseman, Mrs. Huerter, Klem, Trudy & I. We just got there in time (by running) & got a bunch of papers &c. I had my big camera & took their pictures & we had a "turtle hunt" coming back. Mr. H. shot several - the mean thing and the walk across lots was lovely - (we took pictures going down, too, which took time.) On the bridge road Mr. H. was showing us a snake hole - in a very affecting attitude. When Klem snapped

us & tho't she was terribly smart! We rested under a big oak a long while (it's the regular thing) and Mr. H. shot a yellow lily off its stem out in the bay. I took the house, too, & so did Klem. The trip took practically the whole morning & we certainly got acquainted. After dinner we went down on the beach to read, but only watched Mr. Russell setting nets for pike & the wild ducks.
