Apr. 13 Tues. While J.W. was dictating this a.m. Miss McAffrey

rushed in breathless & told us there was a "big fire". We dashed out into our room and saw the whole two top floors of the big 5 story bldg. at Gibbs & Main in a sheet of flame - and in a gale of wind at that. We did no more work that day. The Grove Street flats went - & the big stone synagogue,
(whose walls smashed two small houses) a lot of houses on Stillson St. & then way down by the railroad 20 houses burned. It was terrible. They sent to Syracuse for help. Everybody for blocks packed up to move out and a good many did move, and some wished they had. At one, when Miss Flack & I went out to lunch, some of the Stillson St. houses were blazing (it began about 11:15 & the walls of the big building fell at 11:35! We watched the temple
burn from the roof. At night, just as I was coming home, it began to rain! Too late to do much good. Apr. 14 Wed. Colder. Everybody a wreck after the fire. Nervous & physical. Went to Mrs. Weston's about shirt waists tonight. Apr. 15 Thurs.
Chan. 16 mos. 22 1/2 lbs.
Nice day. Anderson here. Saw Miss Otis, whose grandfather was burnt out Tuesday.
