were there - returned from their long tramp, and made for me directly and staid - devoting themselves to a full account of a fine trip (wood told the story) Arthur Paine was "tamed" efficiently & we used his leggins to wipe our buttery hands on - He's just graduated from Amherst. They helped us off and we were among the first back at camp - by cloudy moonlight - and just in time to escape a deluge of rain which we enjoyed from the Shack. Wood & Paine came over on the launch - to stay in camp a couple of days to try and climb Stony. We had a nice chat in the shack before bed. Aug 13 Thurs. Had a "near-headache" today. The boys - that is, Reed & Jordan & Sorrel & "Elsie" went off for Snowy this a.m. - but not Wood & Paine. I took their pictures (with Sorrel's camera) "all togged up". It was quite rough up toward Farrington's (the way they went) Julie Abbot made us a nice long call this & morning, and Helen
this afternoon. They are nice ('specially "Judy" & her dimples) Mary read "Shorty" aloud, in the hammocks, The luncheon was small & select (all the new girls had gone to Beaver Meadow & had an awfully rough time) after lunch Mary & I left Bess in the hammock, called on Mrs. McKown a while (our party call) and there climbed up the Best-Abbott plaza trail to Watch Point. It was short, but very steep and very beautiful. Lots of
