11/6/05 "The Brighter Side"
to come on go with her and Nellie to see Willard - which I did. It was enjoyable but I didn't like E.S.W. himself as well as usual (and his neckties were atrocious!) Late to bed. Nov. 7. Tues. A most lugubrious Election day. Dark and rainy, but I learned (standing and umbrella with Jim Arnold at 6 o'clock) that J.G. was elected by about 4400 plurality. And everything else here went right. In N.Y. it was worse tho' and to- night we tho't Jerome
wasn't elected (but he was) Hearst
contests McClellan's
election as mayor of N.Y. &c.&c. Nov. 8 Wed. J.W. went off this morning for his first vacation in some time. I had a headache and didn't accomplish as much as I wished. Claude & Char went to see Willard this p.m. & enjoyed him. Nov. 9. Thu. Felt pretty rocky, as I didn't sleep much last night. Met Hamilton and Chattie in Scrantom's tonight. H. showed me pictures of his new (hotel) island and Chat asked me out to dinner and to a concert at Mt. Hor and H. told me how "Jack
 " and Billy Sing both inquired for me "most particular". I didn't go with them but walked home in a snowstorm.
