A gentleman (who looked familiar to me - and afterward turned out to be Tom Brown of Scottsville, when he introduced himself &c. assured us - but we found it was our train! He suggested going over to Piffard (2 miles or so across the flats) to the Pa. R.R. - leaving at 6:52 & offered to get us a trap. We decided to walk, however, to kill time, partly, & Meta telephoned home to Frieda to let our families know. Mr. Brown waited for us and we all started off together. The road was muddy, except the edge. Herma got pretty tired after about half a mile - and we saw a (springless) wagon with a big horse & cheerful young driver coming & begged a ride. The wagon was dirty, but Mr. B

spread his coat & we piled on. Had a very jolty & a very jolly ride - & the driver (Edwin Kichle) proved very cheerful & entertained & entertaining. He drove us to the old - fashioned hotel (Mrs. Connelly's) and we had some delicious warm biscuits and lots of milk & all got well acquainted. Mr. B
