Mar. 10 Sat. A snow storm in the morning but a fair windy afternoon. JW. & his wife really leave for California Monday p.m. At Chicago they join Mr. & Mrs. Melchers (of the Rocky Is Ry.) on their private car and from there on live in luxury. At 5:15 or so the Flack's and I strolled down town together - & went to Sibley's new grocery store on the 5th floor - a most amazing place with demonstration booths mechanical canary birds, the mail chute (among the pickles) and all sorts of things. Then I went down to Scrantom's and finally home, and after a good bean & lettuce supper wrote letters &c. &c. Mar. 11 Sun. Aimless snow today. Dear Claude came down to dinner. He has a letter from Char saying she has a floating kidney! After dinner he took a nap & I wrote &c. Horace Hutchins (Belle Bragdon's step - son) called and spent the evening. He is here at the West High School preparing for Union College - A rather entertaining young man - and talkative. Mar. 12. Mon. Mary's birthday - Blizzard morning and cold clear p.m. JWC left at 5:25 for his California trip - Busy of course - flinch and John Percyfield tonight - Papa finished it, Edith stopped for me & we went to Miss Hutchison's & Miss Dickens office. Mar. 13. Tues. Cold & Clear. Busy with blanks all day. Lunched (early) with Mary, Lura & Edith at Sibley's. Home tonight.
