Aug.5 Sat. Edith & I planned to go to Freddie's again but it was thunder-showery and I read and fixed bureau- drawers &c. &c. After supper - it had cleared off & I rode over to Davises. Found Lura there & Frank & Lillian. Lura has decided to go to St. Helena & it was much dis- cussed of course. Walked down with her. Aug 6. Sun. Cloudy morning. Mother home (no church) Read Harpers & loafed. It cleared off this p.m. after a hard shower & I put on white duck & went over to Lura's to see Matie & her two babies who are certainly fine. Hobart is 5 today and Oliver will be 1 the 22nd. Left there rather early & came home & read some more and wrote. Head ached all day Aug. 7. Mon. Gilmore gone, J.W. busy and every thing going smoothly, but feel pretty rocky. Aug 8-9.10 Tues.Wed.Thurs. Had another bad time - (neuralgia I guess) but slept every night but Tuesday and didn't stay home. Dr. Link put something on my tooth Wed. Played flinch with Mother when I felt able and read a little. Not good for much. Aug. 11. Fri. It began thundering about 4:30 this morning & we had a long & hard
