and then sat on
the piazza - watching the moonlight grow stronger, and talking, till
the A.O's & Dem went over to the
Sanctum to bed. Then we all 6 took the boats & went out
& drifted around in the lovely moonlight. Bed about 11:15!
Aug. 5 Sun.
Warm bright morning. The 2
Charleses
went out fishing early. We
breakfasted about 9 (pancakes) took a walk around the place & saw
"Xan" catch a robinlet for her kittens. Went up to Holme's
& saw the fruit. When we got back "Big Charles"
took the 3 of us up to Excelsior Springs in the big boat.
The sun was very hot but we found some breeze all day, thro' it broke
the record all of over the country, 93 in
Rochester & 105 in some places (in shade) in
N.Y. I drank 2 cups of spring water, which I
liked. Mr. H.
got greens for the fireplace & I took
a picture. Tried at the cottage (n. g.) coming back, and then took a
group in front (so did
Mate, with Mr. H.
& I making up faces (?) at each other. We had a fine dinner (the
Bunnells were over) and spent most of the afternoon reading, visiting,
& taking cat naps (not me!) on the piazza except when we all sat
on the shore & watched the two boys & Mr. W.
in bathing, diving off of each other's shoulders &c. There was a
also had some lovely old songs by Mate in
late p.m.
8/4/06.
