be on the Union & I believe wrote the Sherby Murray article about Nell. He is very pleasant, however. They discussed the Elopement of Cliff Alexander with his stenographer &c. After they left we had a nice old fashioned visit together. Poor Mae does want to keep house & is sorry she sold the one Claude built them - but John longs for the country - so they migrate twice a year. Jan 10 Thurs Dark, windy & horrid. Florence Penfield is here to a "Mattress makers convention!". Spent the evening reading Collier's - It is fine. Jan 11. Fri. Things began early as J.G. went to N.Y. Flack has been home all the week. A beautiful day "brite and fare". Lunched with Papa at Sibley's and then went to Nan's to have my hair done. Esther Warrington was there and we had quite a jolly session. Tonight went with Mother to our church to a reception to Dr. & Mr. Fitch on Chinese missionaries - very attractive young people. The "social" part was the usual thing Nina Hooker sang - she says Mamie
 has two beautiful children - a boy Edward(?) Tom
 and a girl Eleanor
, younger. Jan 12 Sat Horrid and dark again. Everything mis- connected as tho' it was the 13th - at least till afternoon. Tonight Mary and I went to Sibley's and had supper to music - a long one. Then called on Nellie & then went to Cook's and saw a very clever English pantomimest. A toy soldier come to life. It was very good
