Dec. 28 Thurs. Rainy Lovely day till night. It poured all night! I staid down and got my U.S. Tel. bond and sorted out the safe deposit box today. Changed my "Childs Garden of Verses" (I had one) for "House of Mirth" with Edith's permission and read it to- night. It is very interesting. Dec. 29. Fri. A rainy morning. By my in- vitation Mabel and Lura went to lunch with me at Sibley's and we had a very jolly time. Mabel looks very well. She goes back to N.Y. Monday. Edith and Bess Hutchinson and Flora Vogel sat near us part of the time. Edith came up tonight (early) and later Emma Davis came and spent the whole evening. I refused to go to "Wiggle Waggle" with the girls because I was sick with a cold &c. Dec. 30 Sat. Didn't really feel able to go to the office today - but went. Mother's 68th birthday. Shoe trees from me. Stamps from Zenda. Calendars from Zo - lovely bread and butter plates from Claude. Crystal & gold pin tray from Char. pad & envelopes from Papa. letters &c.&c. Busy evening writing up yearly accounts. Had a visit with Berthe Gutman in Whittle's tonight.
