7/31/05 The Girl & the Judge.
July 31 Mon. and poured hard all night and was a torrent in the morning! I left about 8 but the steamer came toward 9 (after I'd examined the fruit kitchen & cellar &c. &c. &c.) and such a moist steamer! At Red Jacket Mr McGuire and a man who looked like Ted Truesdale but was a size larger all around got on. He was good to look at tho' - seeing the weather was not. After awhile Elsie Carter (whom I met at the Ampersand) and her Mother got on & I had quite a little visit with her. And at the Junction Miss Chapin got on and rode to Rush with me. It poured every minute and when I got to Rochester, too, I was a wreck. J.G. & JW go to N.Y. tomorrow - good! Tonight wrote letters & went to Aug. 1 Tues. Went to "The Girl & the Judge" tonight & sat down in front (too near) It is a cute play - & the last one of this Stock co. The Boy's birthday. I gave him that lovely satchel of Uncle Jay's. And Mother the watch chain & both of us the letter scales - He was pleased. Aug 2-3.4.Wed Thur. Fri Uneventful - the "boys" away. Sus-. picious of neuralgia headache. busy - ish - Sleep hard. Read. flinch.

Laura had a flinch party - real nice!
