Aug. 22 Tues. Another lovely day. "Gracie Bugs" came in and invited me to a farewell supper (to "Sally") in the Stormy Petrol - up in the Eastern Wide- waters, but I had promised to go to Mrs. Davises which I did - on Diana - via the Culver road - where they're made the side- path into a cement sidewalk, to one's embarrasment. Mrs. Baker was at Davis's and we had a regular old ladies' party and a lot of nice letters from St. Helena, which made me homesick for my Northland and - ? Aug. 23. Wed. Very busy and tiring day. Trudy came to- night. I went to met her at the R.W. & O. station. She has given up the trip down the river via. Montreal &c. - for which I am sorry. Aug. 24. Thu. An uneventful day. Nice to have Trudy here. Edith came up and spent the evening. Aug. 25 Fri. Warm, but nice. Laura and Mrs. Baker came over tonight and played flinch - in the library. Mary came, late, too. (Nellie is in Syracuse) We had a concert on the music box, and nice ice cream (extra nice) & chocolate wafers. Aug. 26. Sat. A gorgeously beautiful day - Edith phoned this morning - suggesting we go to Manitou with her and Miss Mays. So we started at 2:30 (The car ahead of them.) Before we reached the lake we saw storm-clouds in the distance and just had time to get to the Veranda of the pavilion before a small tornado and deluge arrived, which whipped
