6/30/06. Girofle - Griofla
slept through them. It was cooler this morning, but not later. Boiling then. Lunched down town with G.C.B. Miss Hutchinson & Miss Dickens said Edith went to the Drs this morning. Mary said the other day she was making very Elaborate preparations and then she gets nervous and it affects her digestion. Tonight I trimmed a hat while Papa read. More showers. Jun. 30 Sat. Busy and fatiguing morning (till 1:30!) Went to Sibley's for a Sandwich and then over to the Lyceum to the matinee. It was quite good but Miss Fassett didn't sing - and some of the time it rained so loud we couldn't hear anyone. I managed to get to the office - between drops - for my umbrella & staid till 6:30 getting some of my work into shape. I'm glad to say Gilmore is coming home Mon tonight. Had a nice letter from him from Blue Mt. House. He says Mr. Merwin shows my bear picture to everybody - "with pride" &c. It poured when I came home - Rode up with Herbert Caring & Neal Fisher. Elsie is going to leave the Brooklyn Hospital and go to the Backus Hospital in Norwich, Conn. Tonight I did a few accts and beat Mother badly at flinch. It rained torrents most of the evening. July 1. Sun. A gorgeous day. Wrote a few letters & things and pottered around this a.m. Made lemon jelly. Mother went up to Cro'nest and dinner was late.
