Tonight Mother and I went to Elsie Caring's demonstration at the Mechanics . It was fine - on shell fish. She cocktailed oysters escalloped lobster, fried scallops and did shrimps with peas in bread crusts. All were fine. Sat next to Floss Looney, who was in a panic as she has "an emergency luncheon" Monday. Jan. 12 Friday Fine sunshiney day - but I woke up with a sore throat and felt Rocky all day. Worked hard till five and walked down with the Skipper soon after. He told me a lot of news as usual. We met Flora Vogel. One of Helen's St Helena friends. Miss Samson is going to be married and come here to live. Went to bed soon after supper. Jan 13. Sat. A regular "13th". I was sick but tried hard to get dressed this a.m. as J.W. goes away Tuesday but I couldn't. Was awfully sick all over all day. Tonsilitis, I'm sure. If I'd had any energy I'd have called a doctor, but didn't care & Mother evidently didn't dare unless I said so - tho' she hinted I was too sick to say "yes". Tho't I felt no better at night Jan. 14. Sun. but my throat was certainly better in the morning. I had quite tired out the bed but was too limpsy
