are made is a most magnificent view of the whole Presidential range of the White Mountains in the distance and nearer, hills & valley & Pappoose Pond &c - Beautiful! We came home down thro' the woods. The lovely way that we went up the day we went to Burnell's hill. Dinner was ready & we were hungry, too. Spent the after- noon on the lake - Gurdon took me in the "Akela" and Alice & Nan paddled & rowed the "Wolverine". It was rather rough at first. We went to Camp Gurdon & waited while Gurdon put on his bathing suit. Then we went over to "Stone's cove" and Gurdon went in - He is an expert swimmer - did over 2 miles the other day (& ate a whole plate of fudge afterward!) While we was still in we went up a lovely little wood path to a spring (where Nan & I drank on our near knees & Alice said "Oh! for the camera!") & further up, almost to the road where we were this morning - Then we rowed back to camp. I got out & took a picture. Then we drifted & paddled & floated about the lovely little lake till sunset & moonrise - The colors were lovely & the lake ideal that day. Had quite a visit with Gurdon. Soon after we reached home & got "[illegible]
up". The Parkers & their cousins the Braghards (?) called & just before they left
