The
Lees (or Mrs.) in Ithaca, and
Gene Andrews. She was very pleasant. The girls boys gave us some music (both play well) I
went up to bed about 9:15 - wrote to Mother then.
Aug 25 Sat.
Up at 5:30.
Jno. & Gurdon started for Harrison
at 6:15
- Jno. to go home to Saugerties and
Gurdon to "get a hair-cut" & come
back with the Parkers at noon (They walked over.)
There was a lovely mist on the lake. It proved a beautiful day. Got thro'
dish - washing &c. early.
Alice baked bread & we had callers -
Miss Tyson & Miss
Carpenter (A prim school - ma-am & a pretty laughing one
- devoted friends) Later Alice
& I took a long walk - part way up "Rice's Hill" (thro'
the village) and then turning to the right over a big hill with a
pretty farm house & a beautiful Elm on the top - (Everything seems beautiful near
Waterford) Down a long hill. (black berries to eat
and where 5 roads meet. We took one - sat under a pine a long time &
talked (about Edith's prospects
& Con &c.) and then down a
pretty way into a road along the lake
and into the village - a lovely walk - wood - fields - mountains -
lake - about 4 miles. Had dinner about 1:30. Gurdon just back - told about his trip. &c. After
dinner we decided not to go to the ball game (Bolsters Mills &
Waterford) and went on the lake. Alice
in Gurdon's canoe ("Akela") and Nan & I
