Rhine, I think (but oh! for a ruined castle or two!)
Everything was so interesting -
Ft. Lee,Yonkers,Spuyten
Dyvul, Haverstraw
& the Bay.
Ossining & the prison. Dunder head.
Stony Point & the light houses. The beautiful turn just below West
Point
where "Sugar Loaf" comes in sight
around "Anthony's nose"! From there to West
Point & just above West Point are the
finiest of all I think. Peekskill.
Newburgh - all - the fine old houses on each side.
And most of all imaging
imagining the scenes of
long ago along those shores! I'd like to go up & down a few times
more - wind or no wind. At
Poughkeepsie (The only bridge - till
Albany!) we were supposed to meet the new
steamer "Hendrich Hudson", but didn't till later. When I
was below trying to get dinner I didn't succeed in the dining room -
but did - after a fashion - in the cafè. Went on deck again before we
got to
Kingston Point - where there was a band & it was
very gay & loads of people got off! At
Saugerties I began to gaze at
Obercliffe, and when I got there
the flag was up & Harriette
& Anna (in white) were out waving towels or some they
& it was quite exciting - I couldn't see who was on the piazza -
waved back of course
