visit up in Frieda's room. She talked about going to the horse show. Gracie Bingham was going to take me in her auto, but is sick. Later, Papa read aloud &c. Oct. 12 Fri. Cool and fair. Shopped for a hat this noon finally got one at Karnes. Lunched with Papa. Went to the Perfects' Ball (9th) tonight at Mary's. She & Charlotte were committee. Much to our disappointment, Matie wasn't there (we expected her) & of course not the Rogerses. The table was very pretty pink & white tissue paper decorations - pink & white carnations. Then little pink bootees, filled with salted nuts, at each plate, and a place - card with a baby's picture & poems, as follows. "The year just past, with all its beauties, &c. Has brought Aunt Charlotte the Perfects added duties Aunt Charlotte in the lamplight sits and queer shape bootees knits and knits" " Aunt May her brain has nearly fractured But what a robe she manufactured"! "Although her niece would never ask it, Aunt Lura fixed the sweetest basket!" " Aunt Helen on account of distance Has been of little real assistance", " Aunt Edith advises all other aunts for her small nephews now wear pants!" " Aunt Nellie hurries down to Glenny's To earn for Wallace heaps of pennies" " Aunt May & Mabel - what a pity - all far away in New York City"
