Aug. 9. Thurs Got up early (It was fine) & made some pancakes for breakfast, which were a grand success. Came home at noon & made beds & ate bread & cream (Zenda was de-lighted) a telegram came that Harriette Corse wd go thro' at 10 o'clock & I went down to see her but she wasn't on either train! It must have been the 10:45 or 11 - something. Tonight Lura & "Marie" Baker, May Rogers & Mary& I all went to the Lake at 5 o'clock. Found Nellie & Mabel in front of the Cottage Hotel

& everything cool & beautiful. Was sorry Lura & Mary insisted on eating so early. Went up to Jerry Flynn's & had to wait 20 min. for a table. Went up stairs on a piazza - (!) The service & the dishes were awful & the dinner a shade better (in spots) However "Perfect" conversation enlivened it and the crowning feature was May R's story of her "prosposal" from & "refusal" of a 54 year old rich adventurer (?) last April. The way she told it was - well lamentable, & I am glad no one but "Perfects" heard her! Later we went into the park & the girls stood on benches to see fool out-door vaudeville. The lake was delightful, but we turned our backs & went into a beery auditorium to see "free vaudeville" (which didn't appear) Then we squoze into a car (after a glimpse at the fireworks) & stood up
