boat the "Venture" started last Thursday (just after that hard thunder storm, where we were in N.Y. The others take it on, via Oswego, to Charlotte. He was quite entertaining part of the way home. The rest of the time read. We arrived at 7:39, so glad - Mother didn't expect us so early, but I guess she was glad too. The dear lady had been working hard - house- cleaning, &c. Got to bed about Eleven. Zozie and Zenda were glad - as usual. July 1. Sat. Went to the office today - and found everybody very busy but only one thing radical - dropping our prices - accomplished - and that thro' Gilmore. It was an unsatisfactory Saturday morning, as usual, and as Schanch
 was coming in from Buffalo in the afternoon I lunched down town, and remained, to re-write some proposals, mail some letters and finally left at 4:30 and went to Mrs. Logan's for a shampoo. It began to pour then (had threatend all day) and kept it up all the evening. I wrote, did accts. &c. July 2. Sun. Cloudy morning - Spent a good share of it thoroughly cleaning out my desk - cleared off beautifully in the p.m. Aft I made some lemon jelly in the forenoon, and after dinner dressed up in white duck and had Collier's &c. till Lura & Laura came, about six. Had a nice long visit with them, before and after supper. Washed dishes about 9:30
